Kummooyeh

The sword has been used in various ways in both the East and the West, from ancient times to the modern era. However, in Korea, it has been referred to by various names, such as Kendo, Geomsul(sword technique), and Dobeop(way of the sword), often used interchangeably. Recently, different prefixes are being added to Kendo, resulting in names like Haedong Kendo, Bonguk Kendo, and others.
Originally, China used 'Sul' as in martial arts like Geomsul(swordsmanship) or Changsul(spear technique), Japan used 'Do' (as in Judo or Kendo), and Korea used 'Ye' (as in 24ban-muye, Gungjung-muye, Kummooyeh). The name 'Kendo' or 'Yedo', which came during Japanese occupation, was adopted without much resistance, incorporating Japanese 'Do' suffix naturally.
This is why it's important to start changing these names now. When we excel in Kummooyeh and present it internationally, it can still be confused with Japanese Kendo.
From now on, it is more appropriate to use 'Kummooyeh' instead of 'Kendo' to restore the pride of our ancestors who saved our nation with their unyielding will through every tribulation. I believe that the naming is of primary importance for organizations that claim to represent traditional martial arts. Organizations advocating for traditional sword martial arts should rightly be called 'Kummooyeh' instead of 'Kendo'."

World Kummooyeh Federation

The World Kummooyeh Federation is an association that was established by the founder of Kummooyeh, Grandmaster Ilseong Bouk Soo Joung, who restored the martial art based on the ancient Korean military treatise 'Muyedobotongji'.
He created both the restored Kummooyeh, which is based on the historical techniques, and the practical Kummooyeh, grounded in realistic swordsmanship. The federation has completed a step-by-step training process that aligns with our emotions and modern times.
The federation endeavors to inherit and transmit the great spirit and martial arts of the Korean people, who have a history of half a million years, thus preserving the Korean identity of Kummooyeh and developing its cultural values.
